Write for your dreams!

People always ask: Why did you become a writer?
My answer: Writing lets you touch your dreams.
Writing is a great way to go places and meet people you’d never experience otherwise. If you write nonfiction, those people and places are real. If you write fiction, they come from your imagination.
Or, if you’re like me, you like doing all of those!
As a little kid, I always wanted to be Superman. As a writer, I’ve interviewed two actors (Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain) who played him.
In elementary school, I wanted to be a rock star. Turns out I couldn’t play guitar, and my singing voice was a bit shaky, but as a writer I’ve gone backstage with rock and pop stars.
In middle school, I wanted to be a pro baseball player. It was a good plan ... until I learned I couldn’t hit a curveball. Reality struck when I kept striking out — but as a writer, I’ve experienced three innings of “pro” ball.
By high school, I wanted to be a writer. That plan worked out: I published my first national magazine story at age 16, interviewed my first president (Jimmy Carter) that same year, started covering the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills at age 17, the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres at 18, and signed my first book contract at 20.
Two decades, 61 books, and more than a thousand articles and columns later, I’m still at it ... and I still love to tell people’s stories. Whether you have writing questions, an idea or are seeking a guest author, feel free to get in touch.
